Water Imbroglio Triumph

Imagine Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, and Whoopi Goldberg are teamed up against Chris Rock, Anne Hathaway, and Joaquin Phoenix in a water polo imbroglio. You might call that “Star Wars”, right? But no…that would be the Space Movie Drama that has nothing to do with pugnacious stars. So, what’s in a name?

Waterlogged, We Know

Names are so important, it really can’t be overstated. Imagine if a submarine was instead called underboat. Who would want to be stationed in one? Well, the Germans called them U-boats, short for under the sea boats. So, maybe underboat is not a stretch. What about tugboats? Shouldn’t we call them pullboats? Maybe, but to be sure, tug does mean a quick pull. And, what if the pull isn’t quick, then what? How about the U.S. Navy being renamed “Water Force”? We already have the Air Force and Space Force, don’t we? Alas, too much work, as we’d have to rename the army too, our new “Land Force”. The song would go, “Land, Water, Air Force, Marines…”

More relevantly for regular folks like us who may have boats, what if your boat becomes waterlogged? Then you must escape! Do you go to your otherboat? No. Maybe you go to your secondboat? No. Your backupboat? Still no. You get in your lifeboat, of course, even though no one on it is ever acting very lively and the boat itself isn’t alive. If you are on one unexpectedly I can assure you that your plans have gone off course and you are quite unhappy. But, we couldn’t possibly rename lifeboats for what they actually are, miserableboats or sadboats, could we?

Each Language Offers Its Specialized Environment

Every industry has its terms of art. A doctor doesn’t ever pick up a knife; they pick up a scalpel. You and I may volunteer our services for free from time to time but lawyers don’t do free work; theirs is pro bono. Economists don’t say governments overspend; that’s because to them governments deficit spend. Imagine telling your neighbors you cut your steak with a scalpel, do pro bono work for your kids’ school, and unfortunately lately you’ve been deficit spending.

What’s the point? Notice the level of sophistication added to every day terms. They create a world of words. Doctors, lawyers, and economists – to name just a few professions – made up terms to have their ideas and offerings be and sound extra special in some way. Well, guess what? You can do that too in your business. Maybe it is time you come up with some creative names for your offerings to spur the imagination and sound a little extra learned and special.

What do you call your company? Does it fit? Years ago, I started World Wide Financial Industry Recruiting Services (WWFIRS). Wiffers, anyone? I prefer Agile Rainmakers. We show up and it starts to rain business. How do we do it? By providing executives whatever they need. The easiest analogy is you can take scissors with you sailing, or you bring the Wenger 16999 Swiss Army Knife Giant with 141 tools and utensils. It includes a flashlight for the next time you find yourself on a miserableboat. Agile Rainmakers is your giant Swiss army knife in business scalpeling away to success. We aren’t pro bono, so try not to deficit spend hiring us. We could all end up in a rain-influenced water imbroglio.
